The Society’s 77th Annual General Meeting will be held in the Faculty of Advocates’ MacKenzie Building, Old Assembly Close, off the High Street of Edinburgh, on Saturday 17 November 2012. The business part of the meeting will take place from 10.30 to 11.00am.
Tea and coffee will be served at 11.00am. At 11.30am Professor Norma Dawson will deliver an address entitled "Letters from Inveraray: the correspondence between the 8th Duke of Argyll and the 1st Marquess of Dufferin and Ava (with particular reference to the Irish Land Question)".
Professor Dawson is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and President of the Irish Legal History Society. She has been Professor of Law at Queen’s University Belfast since 1995. She was Head of the Department of Private Law from 1989 to 1994, and Director of the School of Law and Dean of the Faculty of Law from 1994 to 1997. She was a member of the Legal Services Review Group which reported in 2006 (Legal Services in Northern Ireland, tSO, 2006) and she is a member of the Judicial Studies Board (NI).
She is the author of books on the law of certification trade marks and the law of business tenancies, and co-author of a book on charities. She has edited or co-edited several essay collections in the fields of legal history and trade mark law, and published numerous papers on trade mark law, property law, and legal history.
Non members are welcome to attend the lecture and should arrive at the MacKenzie Building from 11.00 am.
