AGM and Annual Lecture
The Stair Society's 84th Annual General Meeting will be held in the Mackenzie Building, Old Assembly Close, Edinburgh on Saturday 16 November 2019 by courtesy of the Facutly of Advocates. The business part of the meeting will take place from 10:30 to 11:00 am, after which tea and coffee will be served. The agenda for the meeting can be found below.
At 11:30 am Professor Jørn Sunde of the University of Bergen will give the Annual Lecture. His topic is 'Birds of a Feather Flock Together? A Comparison of the Legal Order in the Norwegian and Scottish Realm in the 13th Century.'
Professor Sunde studied law at the University of Bergen from 1992 to 1999 and then worked at the State Archives in Bergen. He was a fellow of the universities of Tromsø and later Bergen and was awared a doctorate in law in 2007 for a dissertation on the emergence of the legal method in Danish Norwegian law in the 18th century. In the same year he was appointed professor at the University of Bergen. He is particularly interested in cultural and legal development from the Middle Ages to the 18th century in Denmark-Norway.
All are welcome to attend the lecture.
A drinks reception with a choice of wines and soft drinks will be served at the conclusion of the lecture, followed by lunch. Stair Society members and guests may attend the lunch for £15 per person.
