Professor Alan Watson was Distinguished Research Professor and Ernest P. Rogers Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Georgia School of Law. Educated at Glasgow and Oxford Universities, he taught at the universities of Oxford, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. He was a noted scholar who published widely on Roman law, comparative law, legal history, and law and religion. (A partial list of his publications is available here.)
In addition to serving as the Stair Society's Secretary for the USA, he was a former Literary Director of the Stair Society and delivered the Society's annual lecture in 2001 on 'Transformations of Law: J.1.2., Stair and Mackenzie' which was published in the Society's Miscellany IV (vol. 49).
